How to form the Perfect MASTERMIND for your Business by James Wedmore

A Mastermind is a powerful group of two or more like-minded individuals who call upon a "higher power" for their strength and knowledge. Originally coined by Napoleon Hill, author of Think & Grow Rich, Masterminds are successfully used throughout business to brainstorm and implement ideas.

1. Find & Screen Members: A successful Mastermind depends on the individuals you attract to the group. Show the importance and value of your group by charging dues and entailing a difficult application screening process.

What you are looking for: Like-Minded Individuals. People who are motivated, action-takers who work well with others. Avoid friends and family members. A Mastermind is NOT a charity where you spend all your time/energy helping others. This group is also not a Social Club. It is meant to be tough and grueling (all learning processes are!) But if you are doing something you love and enjoy (passion!) it will not be seen as "work."

2. Create External Structure: Structure is important so you and your group members know what to expect. Below are a list of questions that you should have answered BEFORE your first meeting:
What is the Goal of the group?
How often does the group meet?
How long will this Mastermind be in play?
Indefinitely?
How long are the meetings?
How much are Dues?
How Many members (5-8 is recommended)
Where are the Meetings? Same location, different?

3. Create Internal Structure: The Internal Structure relates more to the way you set-up the agenda for each meeting. In essence, what can everyone expect throughout each meeting. Whether or not you see it, it is imperative hat you set up a leader or president of the group. Someone must be in charge of running and controlling the meeting. There are several different dynamics you can set up for your Mastermind.

One requirement is that each group member gets put on a "Hot Seat" where the rest of the members focus specifically on the issues in their business. There should also be a general lesson taught so that everyone is learning something new. But most importantly, each meeting should be consistent so the members know what to expect each time

4. Meet & Mastermind: It isn't imperative that your Mastermind meet in person, yet it will be the most effective. Other options for meeting include online via chatrooms(Ustream), webinars, Instant Messenger (Skype, AIM) or even via Teleseminars. The most crucial element to find HARMONY with the group. Everyone should be encouraging and supportive with one another. No idea, comment or question should be judged or ridiculed. Nothing should be held back.

5. Follow-Up: Once a Mastermind is formed, it is not only alive inside the meeting room walls or only during the hours you are with your members. A Mastermind is a living, breathing entity, and it must remain that way at all times. This means you are in constant contact with your members whenever possible. Follow-up with phone calls and other forms of contact whenever possible.

Tips & Warnings:

* You will notice that it will take a few meeting for everyone to "warm-up" to each other and get in the swing of things, but soon enough, you will start to see the "magic" and power of a True Mastermind!
